Canne de Combat Championships

Matthew in flightIn August 2009, Cambridge Academy hosted the first GBSF Canne de Combat Championships. The Leys School Sports Complex was an excellent venue, with good space and facilities, and even allowing us to mark-up the ring on their Sports Hall floor.

The largest contingent of fighters and officials was, as expected, from Cambridge. Others came from London, Watford, Oxford, Surrey and Marburg (yes, Marburg, in Germany!)

The early years of Kuk Sool in GB

Senior Instructor, Ollie Batts, has written an article on the early years of Kuk Sool in this country. Ollie was one of the first people in the UK to gain a black belt in Kuk Sool following its introduction in 1973. His original instructor was Master Mok Yang KIM, who had arrived in Great Britain towards the end 1973, at the invitation of USAF military personnel, based in Suffolk. Double cause for a party

Cambridge Academy Senior Instructors, Ollie Batts and Julie Gabriel were honoured with a surprise presentation as the club celebrated its 20th birthday on 1st July 2009. Ollie and Julie set up the club in 1989 and have since worked tirelessly to help their students develop and to promote the core values and diversity that martial arts offer.
