Cambridge Academy of Martial
Arts hosted the second event of the GBSF 2008 National Assaut
League in May. The event was held at the Leys Schools Sports
Complex - a great venue, with plenty of space for 2 rings, separate
warm-up area, and balcony for spectators.
As this competition marked the
10th anniversary of the formation of the Great Britain Savate
Federation, we were expecting a record number of fighters. Over
50 fighters pre-registered, and forty-seven took part on the
day.
Fighters and officials from Birmingham,
Cambridge, Guildford, Lille, London, Malvern, Margate, Oxford
and Teeside took part. The event was also attended by the President
of the International
Savate Federation, Gilles Le Duigou.
Fights started at 11:30am with
pools and eliminations, and finals finished at 5:30pm. Sixteen
divisions were contested over 48 bouts.
Eleven fighters represented Cambridge
Academy of Martial Arts - four of them entering the ring for
the first time. The Academy had five category winners, three
second places and one third place.
