Private training with Ollie Batts
Senior Instructor, Ollie Batts, is available for day-time & weekend private training sessions and self-defence courses.
Ollie is the main founder and senior instructor at CAMA. He has over 40 years experience in the martial arts, and has black belt and instructor grades in several martial arts. These include: fourth degree black belt in Combat Sombo® (UK Sport recognised), third degree black belt in Doce Pares Eskrima, under Grandmaster Danny Guba, and second level instructor in Jun Fan JKD/Kali, under both Rick Young (Edinburgh, UK) and Rick Faye (Minnesota Kali Group, USA).

Ollie is a Professor in the art of Savate, and internationally recognised as an instructor of Savate Boxe and Savate Defence. Several years ago, he was presented with an Savate instructor diploma by the Federation International de Savate. He was a founder member of the national Savate organisation, and its President for several years.
Prior to 1989, Ollie taught traditional Korean martial arts for many years in Cambridge, holding black belts in Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Kuk Sool (one of the UK’s top instructors in 1989). More recently. he wrote a book on Combat Sombo, helping to popularize the art in this country.

In 2012, Ollie was honoured with a top awarded for his services to martial arts. Accompanied by several senior students and members of his family, Ollie was presented with the award at the Martial Arts Illustrated Hall of Fame presentation.

Training Update – June 2021
Following the latest stage in the lifting of the lock down in England, all members are now able to return to “in person” group training with us. We are offering face-to-face training sessions, for members, on three evenings each week, as shown on the class timetable. We are continuing to follow Government advice and rules to keep everyone as safe as possible from Coronavirus, which means only low-risk activities are permitted.
Once all restrictions have been lifted by the Government, we plan to move quickly back into our Full Training Programmes once again. For more information about training with the Academy, please send us a message via the ‘Contact’ tab
Training Update – April 2021
With the gradual lifting of the lock down in England, our Juniors members are now able to return to “in person” group training with us. We are continuing to follow Government advice and rules to keep everyone as safe as possible from Coronavirus, which means only low-risk activities are permitted.
Adult members are now able to book space at our Open Gym self-training sessions. We can provide individual training plans for those attending. Assuming everything goes as planned with the Government Roadmap, adults will be able to return to indoor group training sessions from Monday 17th May.
We are also providing Thursday evening Online Training for Members at this time, and will continue to do so until mid-May, when we hope to be able to offer face-to-face training sessions, for all members, at least two evenings each week. Once all restrictions have been lifted by the Government, we plan to move quickly back into our Full Training Programmes once again.

Training with the Academy – December 2020
Thank you to all members who have supported our online training sessions during the November lockdown. As you probably know, Cambridge has been designated Tier 2 in the latest governmental Coronavirus review, effective as of this coming Wednesday, 2nd December.
After studying the regulations and updating our Risk Assessment, we are pleased to confirm that we will be able to offer in person training, following strict Covid protocols. If you are unwell or self-isolating, please do not come – you will be able to join the sessions online.
A total of seven (7) evenings will be available during the month of December: Weds 2nd, Mon 7th, Weds 9th, Mon 14th, Weds 16th, Mon 21st, & Weds 23rd. Monday evening sessions will take place in the Sports Hall at St. Bede’s, with Wednesday evening sessions in the Gymnasium, as usual.

Training with the Academy
Following the success of our outdoor and online training sessions for existing CAMA members, we are pleased to announce that we can now offer indoor sessions for current members and for beginners.
Dedicated instructors will offer exercise sessions based on Savate boxing, Kali/Eskrima or Canne de Combat. Training is in small socially-distanced groups, maximum of 6 people including the instructor.

Online Introduction to Savate – French Boxing
Following the success of our online training sessions for existing CAMA members, we now offer sessions for beginners and potential new members.
The sessions will run on Wednesday evenings, covering the foundational skills of Savate, including hand strikes, kicks, and defensive skills, along with flexibility, fitness and coordination. Over the course, we will progressively increase the variety of skills to enable you to enter our regular classes with confidence.

As the lockdown has begun to ease, we can now offer 1 to 1 personal training sessions, in accordance with government guidelines. Senior Instructor, Ollie Batts, is available for day-time & weekend personal training sessions adapted to the guidelines. Online Training for CAMA Members
The Academy is now holding regular online training sessions for existing members. The Monday evening session, run by Morgan, is for adult and junior members and covers all aspects of training in Savate, along with flexibility and fitness. The Thursday evening session, run by Ollie, is for adults and more advanced younger members and includes Kali/Escrima and focus mitt-type combinations.
